About Philomena

Philomena Bradford is a multidisciplinary visual artist and writer living in Northern CA. She explores themes of (dis)ease and loss through the media of clay, painting, text, and performance.

In her current work, Gifts, Philomena makes representational sculptures as gifts for the dead and mementos for the living. She understands her work and her practice of making as an act of gift-giving and memorializing across space and time.

Philomena earned her BA in English Literature from Rice University in 2013 and her MA in Theatre and Performance Studies from Brown University in 2016. She collaborated internationally as a director, an actor, and a writer for projects inspired by subjects as various as the life and writings of Simone Weil, sea turtles, love triangles, écriture féminine, plastic straws, role-play, and her mother.
